New year, old news!

Our quarterly update to tie up 2024.

Work at a Glance

October through December have been steady with…

  • Triplex and heater repairs

  • Retrofits, replacing tanks on existing units

  • Building more GP series pressure trucks (single, tandem, and tridem axle) with stainless and mild steel tanks

  • Manufacturing complete GK series fuel trucks with aluminum tanks on single axle trucks, as well as mild steel (16m3 and 20m3) tanks for water trucks (tandem and tridem axle)

The Team

GenTex staff took on some training this quarter. Our parts department took a self-paced, online Excel course through RDP. The courses were tiered to the level of learner and some found new shortcuts and ways to utilize our existing, internal Excel sheets while others found ways to make our quotes and planning stages more efficient.

Staff took additional SolidWorks training to better collaborate as a part of our SolidWorks team. The training allowed them to take on more projects simultaneously and the resource texts will help them to train students in the future.

From Garett

First, the pros of Landman are that in a few episodes they rightly point out that without the oil and gas industry, we wouldn’t be anywhere near as advanced as we are today. They also talk about how green energy AKA wind and solar are not sustainable without significant subsidies and do not produce enough energy to run the world.”

What are the issues?

Ray “They’re trying to close a ball valve with a pipe wrench, the pipe wrench is used backwards and they’re hitting it with a hammer for starters. And the drilling rig crews are doubling as service rig crews and also as maintenance and service operators?”

Lack of safety is noted. Ray “There are blowouts, multiple people getting hurt or killed….makes the Oil & Gas Industry look like the wild west! Then it’s amplified when they show actors around a rig without proper PPE … Scott “This could have all been prevented if they had a good safety program signed by upper management. I think I could save that oil company millions to pay out in death lawsuits, if I could be the consultant on location.”

Garett “And looking at a pressure gauge on the wellhead and saying that the well will produce over 200 barrels a day? Well pressure alone will not tell anyone how much oil is in the production tank, as it could be mainly gas, not fluid! And why is the engineer the only one with oily coveralls? None of us have ever seen an engineer in coveralls, or get dirty around a rig or wellhead”

Scott “It was funny to notice they were pulling pipe (tubing) but never had more than 4-6 in the stand…and where were all the sucker rods? Also I would maybe hold off on the wireline truck and pipe trailer from showing up until they find out they are actually needed. We all know wireline units are not cheap…” A jab from one end of the table to the other.

But it seems they will keep watching.

In the Community

If you read our last newsletter, you’d have read about our name change from almost a decade ago. The time had finally come to change our sign to reflect our move from strictly oilfield manufacturing to the expanded industries. We left the subheading, underline blank this time because no matter what we produce, GenTex will always reflect the legacy of General Hot Oilers and Texsteam, the acquisition and integration of two companies to give GenTex its unique name.

We want to thank our eagle-eyed visitors and neighbours for checking in on us while the sign was down. Thank you to all concerned parties, we’re here to stay. Just had a quick facelift during Q4.

If you missed it and you’re curious to read a little bit more about our name-change, or want to see an old picture of our current building, check out our Q3 newsletter

And it looks like we have another big quarter ahead of us! As always, give us a call at (403) 341-4155 or email us at sales@gentex.ca for your next build, repair, or redesign.

We’ll be here, happy to help.
